4 Promises In The Stars

In the beginning God created; on the fourth day He created stars.  Creation has a unique purpose to glorify God and remind us of our Creator.  Here are 4 lessons from the stars:

An Infinite God Cares For Me

Whether you’re on a camping trip or on a rooftop in the city, looking into the starry expanse on a clear night can make you feel like a tiny speck in an infinite universe.  Well, you are – but it doesn’t hinder God’s interest in you.

Psalm 8:3-4 (NIV)

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?

You are made in the image of God and He cares for you.  You don’t have to earn God’s love, God’s capacity to love is not based on our worthiness.  God is abounding in love towards you, it’s His very nature.

God Delivers Us From Bondage

Exodus details the bondage of God’s people, under the heavy hand of an enemy they had no power to defeat.  God stepped in and delivered his people in a miraculous manner.  A similar miraculous deliverance is needed for mankind today, except it’s not from a Pharaoh in Egypt.  We need God’s deliverance from sin.  In Christ, believers are delivered from the power of death into eternal life.  The power of sin and pharaoh are in the rearview mirror.

Deuteronomy 4:19-20 (NIV)

And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars—all the heavenly array—do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.  But as for you, the Lord took you and brought you out of the iron-smelting furnace, out of Egypt, to be the people of his inheritance, as you now are.

 God’s Word In Us Shines

The world is oppressively dark and hopeless without Christ.  Here’s a powerful reminder that God uses the speech of Christians to bring light to the darkness.

Philippians 2:14-16 (NIV)

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”  Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.

God Fulfills His Promises

As unlikely as it seems, an old miserly couple would continue God’s lineage.  How easy it is to face circumstances in this life that appear insurmountable and become discouraged.  God gave Abraham and Sarah a son that led to ‘descendants as numerous as the stars.’  Let the stars remind you that Almighty God keeps His promises, even if we don’t see fulfillment in our lifetime.

Hebrews 11:11-13 (NIV)

And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.  And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.  All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.

Like the wise men who followed the stars to Jesus, let the starry host be a prompt to hope in Him.
