Jesus Walks a Straight Line

As a little boy I loved this verse, stay on the straight and narrow path. It’s never acceptable to participate in evil, this is what God’s law proclaims. The law makes the world black and white, wrong and right. In my youth this simplified life and gave me a standard to shoot for. Unfortunately, I wrongly assumed I could mature into an exemplar ambassador of Christ, avoiding sin at every turn and keeping my way pure.

Moral perfection eluded me. Day after day my failure confronted me. This standard of perfection could never be met by sinful man. It didn’t take long for me to realize…I can’t do this!

Thank God, Jesus Christ would come to save weary sinners and walk a perfect sinless path!

Hebrews 4:15 (ESV)

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

I encourage you to go in peace, knowing that Christ has fulfilled the law. The burden of perfection is best given to the Savior. Sure, God will continue to lead us into more Godly behavior, but it doesn’t save us. Trust the finished work of Christ crucified.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
